Los Alamos Rec Bond May 2017 Investing in YOU!
- In the last 10 years, the County has spent almost 90% of its capital improvement funds on roads and county facilities. Only 3% of these funds have gone to recreation amenities.
- As a result, current recreation facilities need major infrastructure investment and new facilities need to be built to meet demand that has never been met in the past.
- During many public hearings in 2015 and 2016, the County Council heard strong interest from citizens for county investment to address these deficiencies.
Because public feedback was so strong, the County Council decided to ask county residents if we want to raise money to fund a number of these facilities through a special bond election. If the bond is approved by voters, the County will raise $20 million which, combined with $13.5 million from County capital improvement funds, would be an investment of $33.5 million in these new recreation facilities.
There’s something for everyone in this bond election package.
These facilities will serve a wide range of recreation activities for the enjoyment of all ages: toddlers to teens, young families to older adults. Every recreation league and county resident will have access to these facilities. Property owners and the Laboratory will benefit because Los Alamos will become a more desirable place to live. The local business community will benefit from more visitors and foot-traffic to our downtown areas.
Election ballots will be mailed to your home on May 3 and final Election Day is May 23.
